Businesses are moving from traditional methods to online the rise of digital marketing is growing at a fast pace. But when we think of Digital marketing it may seem that you need a website that will bring you business after you start implementing digital marketing, simple right? It is Wrong!! 

Digital marketing is so widely used now even in creating a business plan separate digital marketing budget is made along with sales and marketing. Today digital marketing has become a necessity for a business to implement. With a huge opportunity, there are lots of myths in digital marketing. Let’s discuss them:

1. SEO

When we heard the term Digital Marketing term SEO (Search engine optimization) is the approach that strikes in the mind. There is a myth everywhere that if SEO is done for the initial 6 months then the website is ranked and your business will grow. This is completely wrong SEO is like solving a puzzle where every time you get different pieces and it is a never-ending process. SEO should be considered a marketing tactic where experiments should be made and solid search-driven content should be written to get search for keywords on the website you are working on.

2. Being online (More visitors – more money)

Business nowadays is rapidly moving their business online and continuously working on increasing traffic. They do advertisements, write content, and use social media to increase website traffic to increase more sales, but this is not entirely true. Usually, every business that has a website does audit checks and goes through website analytics to count the new visitors. It is a misconception that more visitors will land more customers. Not every visitor who visits the websites want to purchase anything, there might be a chance that the visitor likes the website, and certain features like the color combination, placement of content, images, etc.

Another misconception that people have is Digital marketing gives fast ROI for efforts and money. Though certain niche domain websites and content are ranked quickly it is only possible in a niche domain and just ranking is another part and maintaining the rank is another part. The business thinks that as soon as you market your brand or product with the help of digital marketing, your figures will increase and you’ll earn a good amount of money. This is unrealistic as people will first understand your business, research about the company, and product then they may start using your brand. This process takes a minimum of 6 months to see results. Digital marketing helps you to reach the exact target and improve your methods and see what people prefer more. Also, Google often releases new ranking factors which affect the ranking of the website so understanding new ranking factors and implementing them takes time, and to measure results it may take more than 6 months. Most of the time Digital marketing gives results in long term and anytime the advertisement campaign can be tracked if there is a certain metric that is giving low ROI it certainly can be stopped. 

4. Advertisements

The business invests huge money in advertisements and usually targets more people so there might be a chance that few will click on it. But this is wrong. Also purchasing new tools to create more appealing ads so that more potential customers will see the advertisement, but will just lead to burning the cash. If you want more sales you don’t need more advertisements. Advertisement doesn’t always lead to sales but they can certainly place an image in the consumer’s back of mind. There is always a time a season for advertisement which business needs to look before starting an advertisement. Also, there are numerous social media platforms it’s not necessary to target all of them. Though having a profile on each social media is important which will increase traffic.

5. Small investments

Huge returns: Digital marketing has created an image of low investment high returns. But from the past decade, the scenario has changed drastically. From small businesses to big MNC’s every company has now started to use digital marketing and has a separate budget for it. This budget is calculated and based on competitors’ budgets. Competition has got tougher and companies need to push the budget up to see results. Also now companies are increasing the budget for digital marketing which has SEO, PPC, Content marketing, Email marketing, Social media marketing, etc to produce exceptional results, and to achieve this bigger the budget better will be the results approach is followed.

6. Content is the king

No doubt content is king and will always remain the king. But the misconception here is don’t add content in excessive quantity. Rather than posting 4 blogs a day if only 1 research-driven blog is added with more than 1500+words it is a high probability that visitors would read and find it knowledgeable rather than reading 4 other blogs. The focus should always be on quality rather than on quantity. It can also be a possibility that if visitors found several blogs then they might not even read any blog and this will lead to a bounce rate. Therefore to maintain a good bounce rate engaging content and providing a better user experience is important. Also content needs to be changed frequently not only in blogs but in landing pages and the about us section, experimenting always results in success.

7. Digital marketing is a technical process

This is not entirely true. Someone who understands business can understand digital marketing. There is no such thing as writing code and the need to know a programming language. A basic understanding of how the website is run and what is content and how can businesses present themselves to customers is all needed in digital marketing. You should focus on digital marketing research tools which help in understanding the industry and to get more details. Let us break it down for you:

  • For content creation, you will need to understand what business niche you are targeting and what pros and cons of product/service.
  • For social media marketing, it is a daily activity for us to visit social media you just need to understand the perspective of how your social media post can connect the visitor/consumer. If a social post gives value and connects the audience the engagement rate increases significantly.
  • Email marketing is easy but tricky sometimes. Every day we receive emails but how many we open and reply with very few rights. So well research email templates need to be created and always give a personal touch in an email this makes the reader genuinely interested in you.
  • For SEO there is a free website(Google analytics, Uber suggests) which helps you to find your competitors, keywords, traffic analyzing, etc.

Digital Marketing is no longer a 1-time activity, it is a continuous process and needs a lot of patience. Also, you will be able to grow the business after implementing digital marketing. The biggest advantage you will have is every result is traceable. This helps in giving priority to efforts in which are not doing well. That’s why digital marketing is one of the hottest result-driven methodologies which strives to boost performance for the business.
