Over the last decade, we have started using devices in almost all the jobs that we do on a day-to-day basis. In schools and colleges, we started taking digital notes on our laptops or cell phones. Instead of the calendar, we started using calendar apps to remind us of any important event.

We take our laptop and cell phones everywhere we go and along with them, we carry our headphones. Headphones allow us to listen to any audio without disturbing the person next to you. Now that we have different types of headphones like wired, wireless, and even earbud, you can find almost everyone walking with headphones on.

You need to take good care of your headphones for two reasons. 1st reason is that headphones go inside your ears, and if not taken proper care can lead to infection and 2nd; you need to get your money’s worth out of it.

Few easy tips that you can follow to extend the life of your headphones.

Tips on how to take care of your headphones

1. Clean often

It doesn’t matter if you use a wired, wireless, or earbud, you need to clean them often. Many times your headphones might be kept aside and during that time it can accumulate dust in them. This can cause ear infections which can be quite painful.

Another reason to clean headphones is that it can help in maintaining the quality, otherwise any other device can break.

You can use a cloth to clean the cable or use a little bit of rubbing alcohol or sanitizer. To clean the inner part of headphones you can use a Q-tip careful or else it can damage the headphones.

2. Maintain the cord

If you are using the traditional wired headphones then we all know cable tends to get stuck every now and then. Few things you can do is not shove headphones in your pocket, keep it tangled and swing it around. All the above things can make the cable week. Always keep the cable properly rolled. If you have a habit of keeping it rolled neatly, then it can increase your headphone’s life.

3. Keep them tangled free

Traditional headphones have a long cable that usually gets tangled easily and out of sheer boredom, you sometimes do not try to untangle them and listen to music as it is. But tangled cables will only make them break faster.

Make sure to untangle the cables as soon as you find them tangled. This way they will be in good shape for a longer period of time.

4. Do not listen to music at full volume

Listening to music at full volume can not only damage your ears but also blow your headphones. Headphones are not designed to use it at the highest volume. Frequently using headphones at full volume can damage them as well as your ears.

5. Use a case

Most earbuds come with a case because they are delicate and you can lose them easily. Similar to keeping a case for your headphones will not only keep them properly but also you can access them easily without having to frantically search them in your bag or purse.

The case will keep the cords intact in proper condition. The headphone case is a very common thing and you can find it in different colors and designs online as well as offline.

6. Replace rubber tips

When you purchase any headphones you will get rubber tips in 3-4 sizes. This is originally provided so that the user can select according to their ear size and use headphones comfortably.

With constant use, the rubber tips can become weak and even break. You can replace them with other rubber tips provided.

7. Don’t share your headphones with others.

It is advised not to share your headphones with anyone else because it can increase the risk of bacteria entering your ear and can cause an ear infection. Try always to use your headphones and try lending your headphones to others.

8. Unplug the headphones

Once you have used your headphones, you need to unplug them from cell phones or laptops. While doing that, you need to make sure that you pull out the plug, not the cable. When you try to unplug by pulling the cable, you are damaging the headphones.

Conclusion

We all use headphones religiously, before heading out of the house. When we are using headphones regularly, it can get damaged early, but regular cleaning can extend its life.

Taking care of your things is important whether clothes or your electronics. Above given tips and tricks will help you keep your headphones hygienic and make them last longer. You can apply these tips on wired as well as wireless headphones, and it will show results.
