With the long list of weekends that Bangalore offers, Camping near Bangalore is suddenly on the rise and the other options have taken a sideline. Whether you like adventure, a silent walk in nature, or enjoying a night under the stars every option is available in camping.

The people working in the IT hub of the country aka the localities in Bangalore are always looking for a vacation to unwind and relax all thanks to the fast-paced life and hectic work schedules. So camping is one of the best options for them as they can’t afford to go on long trips due to the never-ending deadlines.

What makes Bangalore ideal for camping is the long list of best camping spots you get without going much far from your home. You just have to pack your bags a night before and then set out for a short yet awesome trip and set your soul free for all of the day and then come back to your home at night with an amazing experience. Sounds like the “ Anywhere Door” of Doraemon, doesn’t it? The stay might be short but definitely will rejuvenate you from hard-packed daily life. One of the main reasons why these camping spots are so popular is also the much more cooperative weather although the weather is usually unpredictable and mornings are generally cold there is something in the atmosphere that makes these places a fun-filled idyllic destination for the camping experience.

So here is a list of the best camping spots near Bangalore to make the preparation of your trip a lot smoother cum memorable. So take a break from your monotonous life and scroll through this list no matter which one you choose each of these will give you the same level of excitement and a hoard of beautiful memories. 

1. Bheemeshwari

Camping in Bheemeshwari is a wonderful mix of delightful nature and wild adventure. This camp is close enough for easy access and enough to cut yourself from your everyday monotonous schedule. You can try out a range of activities here from zip line, rope walking, kayaking, etc. No matter what you have in your mind whether it’s an action-packed adventure or just getting close to nature Bheemeshwari is there for you.

However if you really want to enjoy it to the fullest you should probably get going just after monsoons between August and February, as at that time the river is alive and the forest is thick and verdant. Also, this is the time you can come with a pair of Binoculars for Birdwatching as there are a number of birds from river terns, fishing eagles, woodpeckers, and kingfishers to other water birds. But if want to avoid scorching heat you probably would not like summers as the summer months (March-June) can be very warm, especially in the afternoon.

2. Doddamakali

Doddamakali is what we call a living example of pristine rustic charm and idyllic sylvan setting. With its natural surroundings and euphoric atmosphere this place is an ideal getaway, especially for those running away from hustle and bustle of city life. With a plethora of daily activities like bird watching, and wildlife spotting this sacred place is tucked away in the wilderness and this is why it becomes the perfect way to beat the city blues and spend some quiet moments in solitude. 

If you are searching for the best time to visit Doddamakali then the answer to your question is during late monsoons or early winters between August and March because at that time the rainfall has sufficiently fed the river and the river Cauvery is in full bloom. So it also makes it an ideal time for activities like fishing and other activities.  Also, the season is the migration period for birds. During this time the place witnesses exotic breeds of birds.  From bird watching, wildlife spotting, and fishing to other interesting adventure activities this place offers you a diverse list of things to do.

3. Sakleshpur

A hill station at the heights of the Western Ghats of India, Sakleshpur has a bounty of beautiful places to see. It is a small town that is surrounded mostly by a surprising number of plantations of coffee, tea, and spices.

There will be nothing wrong in saying that Sakleshpura’s economy thrives on these.  But the main attraction of Sakleshpur is its natural beauty that sometimes mingles with manmade structures. For example, the 600 years old Sakleshwara temple that sits on the bank of the Hemavathi River or the ages-old Manjarabad Fort which is also one of the prime tourist attractions. Jeep safari, biking, horse riding, trekking, archery, and plantation walks. This place is entrancing and beautiful. With its hills and scenic setting this place along with its flora and fauna is an ideal place for camping near Bangalore.

4. Tusker Valley

Located on Kalhatti slopes which are 20 km from Mudumalai forest Tusker Camp promises a panoramic view of the Annekati, Mudumalai, and Bandipur forests along the Moyar gorge line. Offering a host of activities like canoeing, rock climbing, and rappelling this camp offers an action-packed weekend. 

If you want you can go for nature walks with local guides and then catch a glimpse of wildlife like elephants, wild boars, and guards located at a distance of 245 km from Bangalore. This place is what should come to mind when you think of camping.

5. Kalhatty

At a distance of 260 kilometers from Bangalore this place is close to Ooty and is a wonderland in itself. Famous for its tea, coffee, and spice plantations, the nights of this place can be really chilly. You should keep this in mind when you are packing for the camp.  With activities like rock climbing, trekking, jeep safari, and fishing you will never be bored here and a day might appear too short for you.

The main attraction of the place is Kalhatti Falls also called Bird Watcher’s Falls. Situated at an average height of around 400 feet in the Sigur Plateau. With rich wildlife like Bison, Bear, Deer, and also various types of birds this place has a diverse biodiversity.

6. Coorg

Who doesn’t know about one and all Coorg? Just a 5-hour drive from the main city. A perfect place for nature and adventure enthusiasts as it offers a complete package of activities like white water rafting, wildlife safari, and rope activities. Also if you are an early riser, good news for you, wake up early and head for the sunrise view- you will witness a scene so beautiful that you will never forget it.

Known as The Scotland of India it is one of the most picturesque sites for camping near Bangalore giving the visitors view of coffee and spice plantations as well as backwaters of the River Harangi’s backwaters.

7. Nandi Hills

Serving as the princely kingdom of Mysore for a long time, the rich culture and stunning biodiversity of Nandi Hills continue to serve hundreds of tourists that flock there every winter. From Tipu Sultan’s summer residence, Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple to Brahmashram there are a lot of popular spots on/near Nandi hills. It is a hill fortress that helps you from catching the stunning views of the rising and setting sun to camping and trekking.

The main reason people come here is that who doesn’t want to enjoy the view of low-lying clouds floating around you while you just lay down and enjoy yourself at the top of a hill? Not only camping you can even do cycling, paragliding as well as trekking. Even the weather is pleasant the whole year making it an all-season camping spot.

8. Devarayanadurga Hills

A small hill station near Bangalore Devarayanadurga is the best place for a family retreat or a picnic. A beautiful hill with a great road and awesome views this is the place where enthusiastic hikers always want to be. From spiritual seekers to nature lovers, everyone loves this temple town. With rocky hills surrounded by forests and hilltops dotted with several temples, this place is located at an altitude of 1204 meters.

Even the name Devarayanadurga translates to “Devaraya’s fort” in Kannada. The camping is more of an easy day out which is a combination of an adventure in the hills, temple visits, and nice picnic spots. A hilly terrain, various holy spots and a stunning panoramic view of Tumkur get your adrenaline pumping.
