10 Simple Yet Effective Ways To Improve The Education System

The education system in major countries, such as the USA and UK, has received much criticism despite topping Global Education Rankings. Initially, it might seem that the education system in these first-world countries is flawless. Additionally, the rising percentage of students looking for university assignment help online shows their inability to cope with the current system. The increasing stress and anxiety have resulted in many students choosing such professional help services to keep up with their peers.

However, perfection is hard to achieve, and it is evident that these countries have yet to attain such high standards in education. You can see an example of this when 35.6 percent of students failed to achieve a grade 4 standard pass in their GCSEs in the summer of 2019.

What Is The Reason Behind Poor Education System?

Generally, countries plagued by internal conflicts and economic difficulties find it challenging to provide an excellent education to their citizens. As a result, you’ll notice that the Dominican Republic, Libya, Monaco, Pakistan, and Georgia rank pretty low on the Global Education Rankings.

Political factors are also a crucial factor you need to take into consideration. Educational policymakers and politicians use the education system as leverage to gain public approval and votes. This system is prevalent in all countries, regardless of their socio-economic conditions.

Countries not affected by internal disbalance struggle with corruption in the system. Despite having adequate resources, the misuse of funds, nepotism, and examination rigging is an open secret that questions the integrity of the education system in place.

How Can The Education System Improve?

Perfection is an abstract concept, and many critics would tell you that it is impossible to achieve such a standard. However, you can always strive to rectify the shortcomings and provide a better learning environment for students of future generations.

Let’s look at some steps that policymakers, higher-ups, politicians, teachers, and parents can take to build a better education system for the citizens of tomorrow.

1. Engage the students in active learning

The current education system does little to encourage students to become active thinkers. Instead, you’re likely to find them mindlessly taking down class notes or staring blankly at the outside scenery instead of trying to understand the lectures. In such cases, the student is not an active participant in the class and would find it more challenging to keep up with their studies.

The best solution for this is to develop a better interactive session where students can participate freely. Quizzes, games, and other fun activities can help improve their attention in classes and encourage students to become independent learners.

2. Provide a better student-teacher ratio

It is high time the Education Boards acknowledge the poor student-teacher ratio in schools worldwide. This situation of overcrowding community schools is further worsened as the teachers are spread thin and have to struggle with limited resources.

Even though the policymakers are aware of this problem, the solutions are yet to arrive. Hence, primarily the economically weaker sections of society have to bear the burden of overcrowding in schools.

3. Ensure better allocation of funds

Corruption in the education system has led to the misuse of funds indiscriminately. So it’s no surprise that community colleges, schools, and public education systems can barely make ends meet.

Policymakers need to ensure that their funds for education are not entirely spent on building newer schools. Instead, the focus should also spread to allocating funds for teachers and providing better working environments.

4. Figure out ways to make education less expensive

Perhaps the most significant obstacle the education system has to face is making it more affordable for students. Economically struggling families have to depend on scholarships and funding to send their students to colleges and universities. As a result, most have to give up their dreams of higher studies and settle into a low-income jobs to support their families.

Therefore, managing the higher education expenses if a country wishes to provide better education for its citizens.

5. Increase opportunities for scholarships

In many countries, especially in the US and UK, higher education remains a dream for many students due to the sky-rocketing expenses. As a result, the cut-throat competition to bag the best scholarship gives students immense stress and anxiety.

The best way to make it easier for the students is to provide more scholarship opportunities. Government organizations should take into consideration the demand among the students and make necessary changes.

6. Maintain strict standards for teachers

When you look at the increase in the number of students looking for Mathematics, Science, History, etc. it brings into question the teaching capabilities of the educators. Most of these students have admitted that they find it challenging to understand what their professor teaches in class.

It is crucial to note that teaching is an art that many people do not have the skills despite having the qualifications. Hence, educational institutions need to make the qualifications of becoming a teacher much stricter.

7. Change the entire evaluation system

The current evaluation system does not do justice to the vast majority of the students. Those with disabilities and special needs fall behind in this respect. Furthermore, a few hours of examination cannot judge whether the student has learned anything throughout the year, enabling those who cram a few days before the exam without understanding anything to pass with flying colors.

Hence, the education department needs to develop more innovative evaluation methods that can check the students’ understanding of the subject without putting them under too much stress.

8. Encourage collaborative learning

Most students might work well individually, but they’re bound to face trouble later in life if they cannot function in a collaborative atmosphere. Most jobs would require collaborations with other team members or departments to execute a project successfully.

Hence, the education system needs to encourage a collaborative learning atmosphere where the students can work together. It also helps them to respect others’ opinions and develop social skills that would be extremely useful in the future.

9. Provide more skill-based learning

The education system needs to adapt to the times and provide skill-based learning opportunities for students. According to some reports, the biggest reason for unemployment in the current generation is the lack of employable skills. Most employers see a striking gap between the number of graduates looking for jobs and those with enough skills to land them.

This growing disparity can be decreased with more government initiatives to equip the students with the proper skills early on, ensuring they won’t have to risk unemployment in the future.

10. Ensure parents are more involved

The involvement of parents in their child’s education can help bridge the gap between parents and the faculty. Conducting regular parent-teacher meetings and involving them in recreational activities can help strengthen the bond between the parent and child, making it easier to create a better learning environment for the student.

Summing it up,

No education system in the world is perfect. However, that does not mean that there is no solution to improve it. With the implementation of the small steps highlighted in this blog, you would see a vast improvement in the quality of education. As long as people voice their dissatisfaction and keep highlighting the crucial problems with the system, the government is bound to take notice. While these changes can take years, it is not too late to demand a better education system.
