Gone are the days when phones were a luxury. From the day mobile was introduced, it has gone through a lot of changes and a lot of models have come into the market. One such mobile that is loved by one and all is the iPhone.

Known as not just a mobile but a style statement, iPhones are something a lot of people want. However, just like the demand, the one common thing about these phones is iPhone data recovery, when it gets broken or damaged. There are many possibilities that you would need a recovery of data from the iPhone when

  1. The classic and common problem i.e. hardware issue
  2. The screen is damaged or smashed
  3. Very common problem i.e. phone fell down or fell in the water
  4. Loss of phone

No matter what could be the reason for data loss, the focus is on how to win yourself. So, here we bring you, how and what to do to get data out from your dead phone.

There are 3 broad categories of recovering data from an iPhone:

  • Direct recovery from a dead iPhone
  • Data recovery using iTunes backup.
  • Data recovery using iCloud backup

Direct Recovery From a Dead iPhone

This is the situation, wherein the phone is completely damaged and the iCloud too. Or it is a situation wherein your motherboard is completely dead and you are unable to turn on the phone.

  1. Flip open the back of the phone. Detach the motherboard from your phone.
  2. Now detach the A8 CPU, EEPROM, and NAND Flash from the dead motherboard. Ensure to be careful while detaching these 3 chips, because they play a key role in the successful completion of data recovery.
  3. The next step is to clean these 3 chips. Use rosin, BGA paste flux, PCB cleaner, solder iron, and the razor blade to clean the chips
  4. By the time you decide to repair the dead motherboard, you must buy a new one.
  5. Now detach the 3 chips from the new motherboard i.e. detach A8 CPU, NAND Flash, EEPROM.
  6. Replace the dead motherboard with the new chips
  7. Once the 3 chips are placed. install the motherboard with the new chips back to the phone.
  8. Check whether the replacement has been successful by turning on the phone.

Data Recovery Using iTunes Backup

This is the condition wherein you have saved the data on iTunes. Every time you sync files to iTunes, by default a backup file is created. The whole idea while designing iTunes was to use it for data backup and recovery from dead iPhones. However, for this kind of recovery, you need to have the support of external software support. So, irrespective of the software support you take here is the basic process of how to recover data and how the software helps:

  1. The first step is to download and install the external software for IT to support the data recovery process
  2. Then access the iTunes backup files. Click on “Recover from iTunes backup”, on the left side menu.
  3. The moment you click that option, you will get access to all the backup files. Now choose the files that you wish to retrieve.
  4. If you want to recover all the files then choose the “Recover All,” option.
  5. To recover the files would take some time. The external software would help you see the process of recovery with the status
  6. Once all the data is recovered, choose the files that you wish to export and click on the “Export button.”

Data recovery using iCloud backup

iCloud is the official storage destination that the iPhone uses. So, every time you get connected to WiFi, all the data is automatically stored or uploaded to the cloud. To ensure that the data gets backed up from your iPhone, you need to enable “Back up when WiFi is on,” which must be turned on. So, here is how you recover data using iCloud:

  1. Log into your iCloud account with the help of your Apple ID and you can have a look at all the files that were recently backed up.
  2. In a case where your phone switches on, but you are unable to access the data, you can choose to erase the device by selecting ‘Settings’, ‘General’, ‘Reset’, and ‘Erase all Content and Settings. Post that, select to set up your iPhone like you if it was a new device.
  3. Once you do this, a screen saying ‘Apps and Data’ will pop up. From here, select ‘Restore from iCloud Backup’ and then sign in using your Apple ID.
  4. Once you have logged in, select the files that you wish to restore or recover.
  5. The process would take some time. Once the recovery is done, your phone would be back to normalcy.

Thus, these methods of recovering data from a dead iPhone. However, though you have got a detailed run-through of all three methods and though the process may look simple and done by yourself, it is suggested that you take expert advice.

Many online software promise data recovery support but when it comes to choosing them, there are certain things that you must remember:

  1. When you use, external software support, if the software is not credible, there is a threat of data theft.
  2. If the software is not credible, you not only fail the process of data recovery but may land up losing the data completely.

Therefore, when you are choosing an external software ensure that you conduct a thorough search on the same:

  1. Ensure that the software you choose is credible and authentic
  2. Ensure that the agency gives you the guarantee of data recovery
  3. Ensure that the agency agrees to no data theft
  4. Lastly, ensure that software is not an expensive affair.
