Tips For Creating Your Dream Walk-In Wardrobe

A walk-in wardrobe is a dream for many people, but it can quickly become a nightmare if it’s not well-organized. A walk-in wardrobe has so many elements that are involved in creating the perfect space. With so much room available, it’s easy to let clutter take over, making it hard to find the clothes you want and leaving you feeling overwhelmed.

The most successful walk-in wardrobes can make the space as useful as possible, whilst looking as satisfying and aesthetic as possible. This might include simple additions such as color coordination, or potentially spotlights to showcase your most valuable fashion items. However, you choose to create your space. You should make sure it has all of the necessary elements which combined will create the walk-in wardrobe of your dreams.

All types of home renovations can seem complicated, but with a few simple tips and tricks, you can create a walk-in wardrobe that is functional, organized, and beautiful.

Plan The Layout

The first step in creating a walk-in wardrobe is to plan your space. This means thinking about how you will use the space, what types of clothing you have, and what storage solutions you need. Take measurements of the room and sketch out a plan on paper, including where you want your hanging space, shelves, and drawers. This will help you visualize the space and ensure that you have enough room for everything you need.

Find Storage Options

The right storage solutions can make all the difference in creating an organized walk-in wardrobe. Here are some options to consider:

Hanging space: Hanging space is essential for dresses, suits, and other clothing items that need to be hung. This hanging space should not be cut short, and there must be enough space to hang the longest of coats and dresses to avoid creasing and mess. Consider how clothing stores showcase their clothing. There is always enough space for all of their items to gracefully sit on the hanging space.

Shelves: Shelves are great for folded clothing items, such as jumpers, t-shirts, and jeans. Although folding might seem time-consuming to some, it can make or break any wardrobe space when clothes are simply dumped onto shelves without being folded appropriately. Adjustable shelves allow you to customize the space to fit your needs.

Drawers: Drawers are perfect for storing underwear, socks, and accessories. Draw space can be optimized using draw organizers, which include dividers that allow items such as pairs of socks to be neatly placed within each section. You can also use them to store folded clothing items if you don’t have enough shelf space.

Shoe storage: Shoe storage can be a game-changer in a walk-in wardrobe, especially if you are looking to avoid a shoe pile at your front door. Also, if you have expensive shows you only wear for special occasions it would be much wiser to keep them in a safe, dedicated shoe space. Consider adding shelves, cubbies, or even a dedicated shoe rack to keep your shoes organized and easily accessible.

Organise Clothing

Before you start organizing your walk-in wardrobe, it’s important to sort through your clothing and get rid of anything you no longer wear or need. Many of us are guilty of holding onto clothing that has never been worn or has simply been forgotten about. These clothing items are usually taking up most of the space, which can lead to a lack of space.

We typically only wear 20% of our wardrobes regularly, so start removing any unwanted items or donate them. This will free up space and make it easier to organize your remaining clothing. Start by pulling everything out of your wardrobe and sorting it into piles:

Keep: These are the items you wear regularly and want to keep in your wardrobe. Make sure they are accessible as you are creating your walk-in wardrobe, as you will be wearing them most whilst finding a place for your other items.

Donate: These are items that are still in good condition but no longer fit, are no longer your

style, or you just don’t wear anymore. Consider donating them to charity or if you are looking to make some of the money back sell them online.

Trash: These are items that are stained, torn, or beyond repair. If you have experience with fixing or mending items, perhaps you might consider fixing them or taking them to a specialist to be fixed. Otherwise, throw them away.

Organise Categories

Once you have sorted and purged your clothing, it’s time to start organizing. A good rule of thumb is to organize by category and then by color. This means grouping all your dresses, all your shirts together, and so on. Within each category, organize by color to make it easy to find what you’re looking for. This is a great way to incorporate organization as well as make the space look as aesthetically satisfying as possible. You are making it easier to find your desired items, whilst making it best to pick your color scheme for the day.

Use Labels

Labels are an easy way to keep your walk-in wardrobe organized and are especially important for items that are stored away and not as visible. Label shelves, drawers, and storage bins with the contents inside to make it easy to find what you’re looking for. Also, for special items such as jewelry that you would prefer to keep locked away, you might consider creating different sections such as a place for your necklaces and labeling space for your flat back earrings. You can use label makers or create plaques for each section so it is obvious where everything belongs.

Tidy Up

The key to a well-organized walk-in wardrobe is to keep it tidy. This means taking the time to put things back where they belong and making sure you are putting things back how they were found. Make it a habit to put things away as soon as you’re done with them, and do a quick tidy-up each day to keep things under control. This might seem time-consuming making things perfect each day, but as it becomes a habit you will not find it as time-consuming, and keeping things tidy will come naturally.

Make It Aesthetic

Finally, don’t forget to make your walk-in wardrobe look modern and stunning. Small features such as LED lighting lining your wardrobes and shelves can create the aesthetic look that most walk-in wardrobes hope to achieve. Also, try to match any storage boxes with the aesthetic of the room, so if you have a white, clean-looking space, seek white storage boxes to match the theme.

Final Thoughts

Overall, creating your dream walk-in wardrobe can be much simpler with the correct organization and planning. Ensure that you first have your layout and measurements correct, sort through your existing fashion items, and delegate them into the correct spaces with sufficient coordination and groups. Your walk-in wardrobe will be perfect as long as you stick to the mentioned steps, and avoid overcomplicating the process.
