Portable Or Permanent AC System: Which Should You Choose?

Everyone loves living in a comfortable environment. But high temperatures, humidity, and odor can affect the quality of life in your home. Luckily, you can improve the air quality by installing an AC system in your home or commercial institution. However, there are many options in the market when it comes to the type of AC system you use. If you are not sure whether to use a portable or permanent AC system, this article might be of great help.

Portable Air Conditioners

A portable air conditioner is an easy-to-install system. It comes with a window kit and a hose which helps to exhaust the hot air outside. All you need is a window that can be opened. This is because the kit seals off almost the entire window while leaving a small open area to insert the hose. This allows moisture to escape.

Thanks to the air conditioner’s mobility. You can move it around depending on the area you want to cool. Unlike the permanent AC system that remains in one spot, you can move a portable unit from your bedroom to your nursery or study room anytime.

Another advantage of a portable AC system is its flexibility. You can move it from one window to another when you want to cool different rooms. Besides, you can install it through a door using an extended installation kit.

Unfortunately, portable air conditioners lack energy-efficient features. Also, they are not a good option to cool large rooms.

Permanent AC system

A permanent AC system consists of two parts: the inside and outdoor units. The indoor unit distributes air throughout your home while the outdoor unit expels the hot air. One advantage of permanent air conditioners is that they are more energy-efficient than portable ones. This means that you’ll be paying fewer operation costs.

Another benefit of using a permanent air conditioner is the high-powered cooling. When purchasing an AC system, it is good to focus on the BTU rating. The more cooling power per BTU, the bigger the space the AC unit will cool. In other words, a permanent AC system can cool a large room while keeping the electricity bills down.

Thanks to the unit’s space-saving design. You can mount it on the wall instead of the floor like the portable AC system. This will free up your space and eliminate distractions that can hinder your room décor.

One of the drawbacks of the permanent AC system is the initial cost. It is more expensive when compared to the portable AC system.

Which AC System Should You Choose?

Both portable and permanent AC systems will help to cool your home and improve the air quality. However, some of their features and specifications vary. In this case, it is good to assess your current needs to determine the type of AC system that will best fit your space. You can consider factors such as:

The Size of Your Space

Various types of air conditioners cool a room differently. A bigger system may not be a good option for all rooms. Besides, a small HVAC unit may need to work harder and run longer to cool a big room.

So, which type of AC system should you use for your room? Understanding how to size an HVAC system will help you select the right size for your space. The right-sized AC system is vital for efficient and increased lifespan.

Your Budget

Many people consider the least expensive AC systems to save up costs. However, they do not understand that some expensive units are cost-effective in the long run. For instance, permanent AC systems are energy efficient, thus lowering the electricity bills.

Either portable or permanent AC systems will help you reduce your energy bills during summer. By looking at your needs and reviewing the benefits of each, you’ll make the right decision on which system to consider.

Bottom Line

There is no correct answer to the question, which AC system should you choose? An air conditioner that works best for a particular home may not fit the needs of your home. In this case, your room’s needs will determine the type of AC system to select. Think about the space you want to cool and your budget. Also, determine whether you want a quick fix or a long-term solution.
