Know The Place

Har ki Dun is not a destination it is a wonderland that contains all kinds of natural surprises. This place is situated in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. It is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Himalayas. Har ki Dun is situated at the height of 11600 ft above sea level where land is surrounded by snow-clad mountains.

Another specialty of Har ki Dun is that when you will reach there you will see that the nearby villages are unaffected by civilization. It doesn’t mean that they are living in the stone-age era, they are unaffected by the dynamism of this world. The peoples are so pure in their hearts.

Your trek will start from Dehradun -a well-known place for national as well as for international tourists. Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand state and is well connected all over India. The next destination is Sankri village which is again such a beautiful village far from any kind of pollution. There you will breathe pure oxygen.

The beginning of the Har ki Dun trek is from Taluka which is 12km away from Sankri village. From there you will start ascending the trek. For covering the whole trek 7-8 days are required and you will live your quality life at the lap of mother nature. It will be a lifetime memorable experience for you.

Itinerary Outline –

  • Day 1- Arrival at Dehrdaun followed drive to Sankri
  • Day 2- Sankri to Taluka, Taluka to Osla Trek
  • Day 3- Osla to Har ki Dun Pass
  • Day 4- Har Ki Dun to Jaunadhar Glacier
  • Day 5- Har ki Dun to Osla
  • Day 6- Osla to Sankri
  • Day 7- Sankri to Dehradun 

These 7 -8 days will give you a lifetime feeling of adventure. The third will give you the thrill not because of the trek but due to its mythological history. This is believed by local people that they are relatives of Kauravas. Osla is famous for the “Temple of Duryodhana”  which is worshiped by the villagers.

Things to Do During Har ki Doon Trek  

Photography– During the trek, you will be amazed that each point is perfect to capture. These points will be captured by you as well as by your eyes also.

Zipline Ride– Now Sankri is well known for its Zipline Riding activities. Here you will get a chance to ride the highest zipline in Uttarakhand. It is 700 meters high as well as during the ride you will pass over to saur village. Those areal views will remain in your memory forever.

Exploring the Wildlife- Har ki Dun trek is nearby Govind National Park which is a natural reserve for Himalayan species of plants and wildlife. The entrance of this park at Natwar. Apart from wildlife different kinds of medicinal plants are also there.

Interaction with Locals- This term seems very light but from the inner side, it is the heaviest one. To know any place better and more enjoy the trip it will be best that interact with the locals to understand their culture. It will be possible that you to find some lifelong learning and good things to follow in your life.

How to Reach –

By Air– Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport and well connected with Delhi & other airports of India. There is a distance of 230 km between Sankri and the Airport.

By Train– Dehradun Railway station is the one and only Railway station to access the Garhwal region. Railways station is 215 km away situated from Sankri

By Road- The connectivity is good by road. Where Dehradun and Sankri are also well connected. 

Some Important Tips

  • During the trek, you will be involved throughout all the days physically so it is advised that start a physical activity from 2-3 months ago.
  • During the trek, if you feel that you are unable to move with your luggage then hire a mule or porter to continue your trek.
  • Weather can be changed at any time in the mountains so please have cross-checked with the authority to avoid any natural hazards.
  • Hire some experienced Tour guides to avoid any kind of mistake during the route. He will lead you throughout the route.

  • Trekking Gears
  • Thermal innerwear
  • First Aid Kit
  • Medicine if required
  • LED Torch
  • UV Protected Sunglasses
  • Thermo flask
  • Extra batteries for the camera
  • Other Miscellaneous Items which are easy to carry 

Best Time to Go

  • September – November
  • April-June 
  • From July to August trek remain closed.

So this is all the information required for trekking Har ki Dun. During trekking, we have to show our responsible behavior also conserve nature. So try to avoid those things which harm nature.
